Sports Poems from
Hoosier Poets
Super Bowl XLVI in the Year of the
Dragon
Joyce Brinkman
(Indiana Poet
Laureate 2002-2008)
Untold traces of rabbit’s tracks remain
though the dragon breathes fresh life
on winter’s waiting path.
Eyes look to the skies. Debate the weather,
wonder whether bets will pay off.
Will
Patriots stitch together a win, or
suffer a Giant
thumping? The drum beat
heats up, quickens
its tempo, our pulse.
The
temperature and new moon rise.
Still
in its heart, Indy bleeds blue.
